8 Ways To Make New Friends

You have successfully moved to a new city!  Whether the move is for work, to retire or you just needed a change, your goal now is to make new friends! It’s not as hard as you may think.

Be the one who starts a conversation by introducing yourself and talk about the common ground you have.  For example, if you are at the community pool talk about how great the facilities are.

Asking questions is a good way to start conversations and build rapport with others.

When you’re in a conversation, look the person in the eye. This lets them know you are listening to them and are interested in what they have to say.

Pay a compliment! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like a compliment whether it’s personal or a praise about their work!

The best way to make new friends is to be friendly!  If you want new friends, be a friend!  Friends are priceless. Few things in life are more important that close friends!

Here is a list of 8 ways to make new friends in a new city!

  1. Find a church – Don’t simply go and sit in your pew, get connected through small groups and activities. Volunteering at church is a good way to meet people, especially as a greeter or usher.
  2. Join a gym– Joining a gym is a great way to stay fit and be social.  Invite your workout buddies or yoga classmates to dinner or a drink.
  3. Be sociable at work-Get to know your co-workers on a personal level.  Take your lunch break at the same time as others.  Don’t turn down invites for after work get togethers!
  4. Join Facebook Groups– Look for local groups.  If you are single, a singles group is a great way to meet friends at events and even possibly a mate! A hobby group is an excellent way to meet new friends that you have something in common with.
  5. Go to community events– Live music, festivals, craft fairs, etc., are great ways to meet new people but don’t be bashful.  Make the first move in striking up a conversation!
  6. Sign up for classes-Painting, photography, craft classes, creative writing, dance classes are just a few examples of classes that you can take to meet new friends
  7. Join a book club-A book club is a group of people who read and discuss books.  The regular meetings is a great way to meet and make new friends.
  8. Go to the community pool– It’s a great way to enjoy your day and meet new people in your community.
